This chapter sets forth a review of the selection and application of centrifugal pumps used with air conditioning and refrigeration systems. These are two major categories of pumps: 1. Positive displacement – reciprocating, rotary and screw. 2. Centrifugal – with a variety of impeller designs classified as plain (radial) flow, mixed flow and axial flow, each within a volute casing; also turbine (diffuser) type pumps.
