This edited collection provides an interdisciplinary and multicultural perspective on gender within Hispanic film and literature. The contributors analyze the relationship between the historical and social contexts of various countries, such as Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Uruguay, and its effects on their differing representations of gender. Gender in Hispanic Film and Television examines gender-based violence, transvestism, lesbianism, (mis)representation, indigenism, dissent, identity, and voice in order to determine a better means of understanding the meaning an implications of gender within the diversity of people and cultures that comprise the Hispanic world.
