A metal cutting process involves workpiece, tool (including holding devices), chips and cutting fluid. For removing the metal, a wedge shaped tool is considered stationary and the work piece moves to the right. The area of metal in front of tool gets compressed causing high temperature shear. The stress in workpiece just ahead of the cutting tool reaches ultimate strength and particles shears to form chip elements.
