Yngvar Hakonsson and his loyal companion Alasdair are slave-soldiers in the Byzantine army. Though granted freedom for their heroism, they must continue to serve. Alongside soldiers of the Empire, they defend the walls of Pozzallo against the Arab Emirate. The Arabs have wearied of Byzantine interference.
