About the Subject Assessments CSET™: Subject Assessment in the Mathematics examination Purpose: The assessments are designed to test the knowledge and competencies of prospective secondary level teachers. The question bank from which the assessment is drawn is undergoing constant revision. As a result, your test may include questions that will not count towards your score. Test Version: There are three versions of subject assessment for Mathematics tests in California. The Mathematics Subtest I (110) emphasizes comprehension in Algebra and Number Theory Mathematics Subtest II (111) in Geometry Probability and Statistics Mathematics Subtest III (112) for Calculus and the History of Mathematics. The first two subtests taken together represent the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Foundational-Level Mathematics authorizing the teaching of general mathematics, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, and consumer mathematics. The Mathematics examination guide is based on a typical knowledge level of persons who have completed a bachelor’s degree program in Mathematics. Time Allowance and Format: You will have 5 hours to finish the test. Part of the test will consist of multiple-choice questions part of the test will consist of focused and extended constructed-response questions. There are 60 multiplechoice questions and 8 focused constructed-response questions in the three subtests. If you fail one part of the exam, but not the other, you only need to retake the part you have failed. Weighting: There are 24 multiple-choice questions and 3 focused constructedresponse questions in Subtest I for Algebra 6 multiple-choice questions and 1 focused constructed-response questions for Number Theory. There are 22 multiple-choice questions and 3 focused constructed-response questions in Subtest II for Geometry 8 multiple-choice questions and 1 focused constructedresponse questions for Probability and Statistics.
