This book is primarily intended to acquaint the reader with the problems we face when we formulate a continuum problem from a statistical point of view. In the early chapters I emphasize what is meant by the solution to a statistical continuum problem and in the later chapters we present the techniques of solution that have been used in four separate fields. It is hoped that the book will be suitable for second- or third-year graduate students in engineering and physics and for research workers in the variety of disciplines that use statistical formulations.
